World Book Day 2026!
This year for World Book Day, we have focused on 'Twisted Tales'! Reception class have looked at the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and have made their own version, we created a story map and acted out parts in front of the class. The children have had a great day dressing up as different characters and sharing their favourite stories!
Term 4 - Outdoor fun
During our child led learning, the children have been having lots of fun exploring the outdoor space! They have been building, climbing, creating marvellous potions and making obstacle courses!
Term 4 - Bikes and Scooters
This term, the children have been able to bring in their bikes and scooters and have been learning how to steer and travel safely whilst using them. They have been looking at how to stop, how to turn and having so much fun at the same time!
Term 4 - RE
This term we are looking at the Easter story. Our key question is 'Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?', as part of one of our lessons we created our own crosses using resources in and out of the classroom!
Term 4 - Football
This term, the children have been learning fundamental skills in football. They have been learning how to pass, dribble and find a space. They have even had a few fun matches trying to score goals!
Term 3 - RE
This term we have been looking at stories that Jesus shared with his followers. We have learnt key words such as, 'parable', 'disciple', 'faith', 'follower' and 'peace'. We have created beautiful pieces of artwork throughout the term of fish, sheep and retold stories using small world characters.
Term 3 - Maths
This term we have been looking at mass and capacity! We have been finding containers inside and outside the classroom, filling them up, using balancing scales and finding objects that weigh the same. It has been lots of fun exploring this unit!
Term 3 - Princess and the pea
The children spent time planning, designing and making their own bed for the princess based off of 'The Princess and the Pea'. We spent the week sorting through materials and deciding whether they were soft or hard and what types of materials are in these categories.
Christmas fun!
Reception have had an exciting end to Term 2, taking part in the Nativity, Christmas service, Christmas party and many more fun activities! We hope you all have a lovely Christmas break!
Our Winter Walk - The Jolly Christmas Postman.
This week we have read 'The Jolly Christmas Postman.' We wrote our own letters to Santa and when we went on our winter walk we posted our letters to Santa in the magical Santa Post Box on Ashtead Drive. We met Katie who told us all about Santa and how he will respond to our letters! We are so excited.
We then went to visit our 'Special Year R Tree' on our winter walk to see how it has changed through the seasons. The children noticed that during our winter walk the tree was bare, the ground was wet and it felt very cold outside!
Term 2 - Hansel and Gretel - Sweetie House
We have enjoyed reading the story Hansel and Gretel. We loved retelling the story and we explored our favourite parts! In class we planned to design our own sweetie house with REAL sweets. We selected which sweets we wanted to use and what biscuits we would use for the structure. Our parents and grandparents then came in to help us build our sweetie house. We ate them after and they were very yummy :-) The next day we evaluated our sweetie houses and thought about what went well and what we found difficult. We had so much fun, a huge thank you to everyone who was able to join us.
Term 2 - Art Week!!
Year R looked at the artist Simone Leigh. She is known for her large scale sculptures! Inspired by Simone Leigh we created junk modelling portraits! We turned everyday objects into powerful portraits! These artworks were made with imagination, teamwork and lots of junk!
We also created circle discs full of pink mosaic tiles! Every class in the school has made a different coloured tile! Mrs Dadd from Nursery is putting these all together so that every child in Bapchild is part of our Bapchild Rainbow Tree!
We hope you can view our portraits at our whole school Art Gallery this afternoon at 2:30pm.
Term 1 - Autumn Walk
This term, we did our first village walk around Bapchild, looking for the signs of Autumn! We saw the leaves were orange/brown and were on the floor making a crunching sound beneath our feet. We found and collected conkers from the ground and went to see the farmer's field.
Term 1 - RE
This term we have been looking at what it means to be a Christian and the creation story in the bible. The children have taken part in many fun activities and we took a trip to the church to meet Rev. Simon and have a look around St. Laurence's.
Term 1 - Maths
This term we have been very busy learning about patterns, measuring, finding one more and one less, matching, sorting and pairing objects! Here are some pictures of our fun maths learning in class!
We have had a great second week in school. We have taken part in our first music lesson with Mrs. Julier, created amazing portraits with nuts and bolts, read stories, started phonics and had lots of fun playing with our new friends!
We have had an amazing first week in Reception! The children have shown incredible bravery and resilience coming into school and have had great fun learning and playing with their new friends. The children have had fun exploring the outside area, playing role play games, creating beautiful pieces of art, writing their names and meeting with their Year 6 buddies.
