Design and Technology

Design Technology Vision Statement

“The way the world is going, its technology driven.”

James Dyson

Curriculum vision.

Curriculum Intent

Children will be able to develop design and technology skills through a range of topics during their duration at Bapchild Primary School. Their knowledge will develop through topics that will cover mechanisms, structures, textiles and food that builds each year.

Curriculum Implantation

Children achieve design technology skills through carefully planned units of work that follow a specific pattern to allow them to become creative designers, sculpters and chefs. The pattern of lessons is research, design, make and evaluate.

Language-rich and wide range of vocabulary.

Children have language rich classrooms, where they will develop and use the correct vocabulary to be able to plan, create and evaluate their design technology creations.

Enquiry Based Learning

Our design technology lessons are based around key enquiry questions in order to enthuse, engage and captivate. Children have the opportunity to research and follow their own design ideas based around the key question.

Critical thinking through posing and answering questions.

Through our design technology units of work the children are able to develop their metacognition and critical thinking skills in order for them to become resilient, independent and inquisitive learners. Children ask their own questions and answer questions to gather a deeper understanding in order to evaluate critically their design ideas and products, reaching a deeper understanding on how to improve them to ensure they are more successful with future design ideas.

Curriculum Impact

The impact of our design technology curriculum is to enable every child to develop skills in order for them to become creative and adaptable designers and creators throughout their lives. The impact is monitored through formative and summative assessment, monitoring medium term plans, lesson observations and pupil voice.
